Honor to be announced at March 17 CLE

North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Attorneys (NC GALA) Institute for Equal Rights seeks nominations for the 2006 recipient of its "Ally for Justice" award. The deadline for nominations is February 15, 2006. This 2nd annual award will be presented on March 17, at NC GALA's Continuing Legal Education Event featuring author/activist John D?Emilio.

The "Ally for Justice" award was inaugurated in 2005 to recognize the work and passion of non-LGBT allies in their legal efforts toward equality for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community in North Carolina. Durham County Clerk of Superior Court Archie L. Smith, III received the first award in April 2005. The NC GALA Board announced that the award was given in recognition of Mr. Smith's work which led to the granting of second-parent adoptions in North Carolina.

Nominations must be no longer than one page and include contact information for the nominator as well as the nominee. A brief description of the nominee's qualifications and any appropriate attachments are requested. Nominations may be emailed to ncgala@aol.com or mailed to NC GALA Institute "Ally for Justice" Award, 400 West Main Street, Suite 502, Durham NC 27701, to be received no later than February 15, 2006.

The NC GALA Institute for Equal Rights advocates for LGBT people through education, policy reform, and direct legal services to eliminate legal carriers to full equality. For more information, go to www.ncgala.org or email ncgala@aol.com.
