In 2003, The Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau named the NCGLFF a
“Signature Event” for Durham, the highest honor bestowed on a cultural event
or attraction by the organization. Produced by the non-profit Carolina
Theatre of Durham, Inc., the NCGLFF, which began in 1995, is the second
largest gay and lesbian film festival in the Southeast and the largest
cultural arts event serving the queer community in the Carolinas.
Since its beginning in 1995, the NCGLFF has presented almost 1,000 shorts,
documentaries and feature films of wide appeal to the LGBT community. The
2007 festival line-up will feature 76 films including 2 world premieres and
72 North Carolina premieres. The 76 films represent an international
collaboration of artists from a dozen countries including Germany, Taiwan,
Israel, France, Iceland, Spain, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Highlight films for this year’s festival include the Women’s Centerpiece
“Nina’s Heavenly Delights,” Men’s Centerpiece – “East Side Story,” Women’s
Opening Night Film – “What’s Up, Scarlet?” and the Men’s Opening Night Film
– “A Four Letter Word.”
